Moving an Ouvvi Instance to a New Server

The following documentation relates to Ouvvi V4. Older versions of Ouvvi do have the capability to export your projects but you will need to create and attach your triggers separately. You should also be able to export any connections from the connection library from v2.5.

When moving Ouvvi to a new server or machine you have two options available:

  1. Export and Import your existing configuration
  2. Configure Ouvvi on the new server to use the existing Database

Use the Existing Ouvvi Database

This depends if the server or machine where the Ouvvi database is stored is being decommissioned. If it is then you can make a copy and import this into the new SQL Express/Server on the new server.

To do this open the deployment manager on your new server and create a new ouvvi instance. Make sure you have installed IIS before continuing.

Double click onto this instance and click onto the Database tab. Now just direct the configuration to your Ouvvi database and then install the instance.

Your Ouvvi environment will now be available on the new server. Make sure to register the license key on this new instance under Settings > Register License Key.

Remember to uninstall Ouvvi from your previous server and remove the activation from the license key. This will free up the activation to be used on the new server.

Soultion Export/Import

Older versions that do not have the solution import/export feature will need to export and then import each component separately. i.e Projects, Connections, Triggers, Users etc.

If you want to start with a clean install of Ouvvi you can export your configuration using the Solution Export feature.

To get to the Solution Export open Ouvvi and go to Projects, then click Export in the toolbar.

Export Projects

Now click onto the Solution Export in the blue banner.

Export Solution

And then check the checkbox against the items you want to be included in the export.

Choose Projects to Export

This will export a ZIP Archive file containing the solution assets which you can then extract and modify as necessary.

Solution Files

Now you can import the solution file into your new Ouvvi instance.

The Import process is a MERGE operation with your Ouvvi instance where items are matched by name. The only items that are deleted are steps within an imported project where they no longer exist.

Important: You must use unique names for your Ouvvi items so that matching by name during the import works correctly.

Open Ouvvi on your new server and go to Projects > Import.

Import Projects

Now click onto Solution Import in the blue banner and then click Browse to locate your solution file that you exported earlier. Click Next to continue.

Import Solution

Before your items are imported you can review the contents of the solution file and choose which items to import.

Check Items to Import

Once you are satisfied you have all the items you would like to import selected click Import to load them into Ouvvi.
